Did You Know? Our Administrators Have Lives Too!

Sometimes, we forget that our friends, our teachers, and even our administrators are real people. Let’s fix that.

On October 18th, 2022, we interviewed Dr. Jackson (Principal), Dr. Fant (Junior Dean), and Ms. Peterson (Athletic Director) at Northwest High School. We wanted to get to know our administrators as more than just administrators, so we asked them questions about themselves. Our interviewer, Jeremy Freeman, asked them these get-to-know-you questions.

The first person we interviewed was Dr Jackson in her office. When asked about how she feels about Northwest, she said she loves it. She loves her staff and the students. She has been an administrator at Northwest for 2 years. That said, she has been an administrator for over 15 years total, and she started as a counselor. Dr. Jackson is married and has a 9-year-old son named Jacob! She also has three dogs: Zoey, Jazzy, and Manny. Next, we asked her what Halloween foods she enjoys. She said “warm foods, anything out of a crockpot” because it’s getting chilly out. Her favorite food of all time is medium-rare-steak. Also, her favorite color is husky red! Finally, if Dr. Jackson was a kid again, she would dress up as a flower, a bumble bee, an insect, or an animal.

When we asked Dr. Fant “How do you feel about Northwest?” he said he liked it. It’s different than the other schools he’s been at, but it has a similar background to those other schools. The “mission and goals are always the same: to help kids find their potential.” Our second question was, “How long have you been an admin?” He told us this is his first year being an admin in K-12 education. We then asked him what Halloween themed food he likes to eat on Halloween. He said he would like to eat stuffing. As for his favorite food, it’s baked chicken breast (not fried). We also learned that if Dr. Fant was a kid again he would dress up as Batman for Halloween. If he was going to dress up for Halloween here in 2022, he would be a superhero, specifically a black male teacher who is highly educated.

Finally, we interviewed Ms. Peterson and asked her the same questions as Dr. Jackson and Dr. Fant. She thinks that Northwest is an amazing place, and that it’s kind of a “secret” how amazing it is. This is her 9th year being an administrator at Northwest, but she has been here for 13 years. This is her 3rd year as the school’s athletic director. We asked her what food she’d like to eat on Halloween, and she said spaghetti and meatballs because it’s “like worms and guts.” Her favorite food is chips and salsa. We also learned that her favorite color is purple. If Ms. Peterson was a kid in present day she’d dress up as Captain America or Captain Marvel. Finally, when asked how she feels about Halloween in general, she said she’s always liked Halloween.
